In March 2024, SMBC Aviation Capital moved into its new headquarters – Fitzwilliam 28, an iconic building located in the heart of Dublin’s historic Georgian Mile.
In 2011, an award-winning design for the new headquarters of the ESB, the national electricity supplier, was completed. In 2022, work was competed on the site, which sits within Dublin’s historic Georgian Mile, where sixteen houses had previously been demolished in 1961. The new building now sits comfortably among its 18th-century surroundings, striking a balance between the historic fabric of the district and modern functionality, allowing the building to stand out while harmonising with the neighbourhood’s architectural heritage.
Our new headquarters reflects our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, standing out as one of the most sustainable office developments of its scale in Ireland. The development incorporates several innovative sustainable technologies, while delivering a near-zero energy building. The building is built to the LEEDv4.1 Gold standard – a globally recognised symbol of achievement in sustainability.
We have also welcomed two additional neighbours who will share our space in Fitzwilliam 28. Together Academy is a unique training and employment initiative designed to provide young adults with Down Syndrome, certified training, practical work experience, employment opportunities and a critical social and support network. Together Academy will operate a training café on our ground floor and a training facility and office on the lower ground floor.
The Trinity College Dublin Sustainable Aviation Fuel Research Facility is located on the ground floor. Trinity College Dublin staff, as delivery partners for the EASA sponsored EU SAF Clearing House, will play a crucial role in identifying and validating new, sustainable fuels. SMBC Aviation Capital is proud to support this crucial work on the future sustainability of the aviation sector.
We are delighted to take up residence in our new global headquarters and look forward to the next chapter in the proud story of our business here in the historic heart of Dublin.
