SVP/EVP Airline Marketing (Americas)

The Airline Marketing (AM) Team forms an integral part of both the delivery of our commercial strategy and the holistic management of our airline customer base. Reporting to the Head of Airline Marketing and located in Miami, the position of Executive Vice President, AM (AMER) is a key role within the marketing leadership team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with vision, energy and ambition to lead, develop and improve our Airline Marketing capabilities in the AMER region. 

The Executive Vice President, AM (AMER) will work closely with the Head of Airline Marketing to lead a team of experienced originators, with responsibility for implementing SMBC AC’s commercial strategy with our airline customers via purchase and lease back transactions, the leasing of aircraft from SMBC AC’s existing direct orders with Boeing and Airbus and the leasing of the existing portfolio of used aircraft owned and managed by SMBC AC. 

The successful applicant will (1) bring the right combination of experience, leadership competencies and cultural fit to enable them to lead the AM team in AMER, (2) partner with the other regional EVPs in the broader AM team, whilst servicing our airline customers and delivering shareholder returns and (3) be required to manage the day to day marketing activities and reporting requirements for the AMER region while maintaining direct customer coverage responsibilities to ensure they keep pace directly with developments in the market.
 

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop a best-in-class team of Airline Marketing executives in the AMER region. 
  • Manage the lease and re-lease of owned and managed aircraft in SMBC AC’s fleet.
  • Manage the placement of SMBC AC’s order positions with airlines.
  • Source purchase and leaseback investment opportunities at attractive returns and with target customers.
  • Create, manage and implement customer strategies with airlines across the AMER region.
  • Analyse transaction opportunities within the region and make recommendations to the Head of Airline Marketing and the broader business.
  • Coordinate and liaise with the Head of Airline Marketing and other regional marketing heads to ensure budgets are achieved and decisions concerning allocation of aircraft and capital are well informed.
  • Embrace market intelligence and provide useful market insight to the business to enable tactical and strategic decisions to be taken by the business and contribute to the debate for same.
  • Deliver on a comprehensive suite of analytically driven reporting requirements established by the Head of Airline Marketing.
  • Drive pricing excellence ensuring consistency and the protection/improvement of margin.
  • Work with others across the business collaborating and influencing in all aspects of the execution of the commercial strategy.
  • Establish yourself within the AM team as an expert in regional matters and with the customers in your region, including providing early warnings for customers experiencing difficulty.
  • Ensure adherence to existing process and procedures of SMBC AC while contributing to improvements of our business flow.
  • Develop capabilities within the team, ensuring that all team members have challenging personal development plans in place for current and future roles and ensure that constant development activity is undertaken.
     

Qualifications & Experience

  • Broad industry experience having worked in a variety of relevant marketing roles together with a strong market reputation across a diverse network of contacts and with at least 10 years held at a senior level. 
  • Proven ability to manage large ticket, complex transactions with a track record in sourcing and closing business opportunities.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience with the ability to develop and communicate a vision that inspires and motivates employees and aligns to our business strategy.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of the commercial aviation space, all aircraft financing structures and the competitors of SMBC AC. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and nurture relationships with a wide range of industry stakeholders.
  • Established network of contacts with airline customers in AMER.
  • Strong commitment to deliver consistently and exceed targets with a drive for rapid change and continuous improvement. 
  • Strong interest in developing systems to deliver operational excellence and superior service to customers.
  • Commercial outlook with customer centric approach to business.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, occasionally on short notice.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate demands of different time zones.
