Burkina Faso Cookstove Project
We worked closely with our Belgium based partner CO2logic (part of South Pole) to identify a suitable carbon offsetting project to invest in. An improved cookstove project in Burkina Faso in West Africa which will have deep social impact was identified. The local project manager, Association Tiipaalga is a long-established NGO in the region supporting the local population.
BURKINA FASO
The project, located in the two provinces of Oubritenga & Ganzourgou (Plateau-Central region), involves traditional stoves and open fires being replaced with more efficient cookstoves for 28,000 families. The new cookstoves will be built by local people, using local materials and will respect the local culture. It includes a micro credit initiative to benefit the local community, along with an investment in income generating activities which include bee keeping and non-wood forest products.
The project will result in a reduction of 2.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions per household per year. The carbon credits are registered with Gold Standard. Shane Wilson, EVP of The Nest - Innovation Hub, visited the project in April 2022 in order to understand the local context and to see the social impact of the project first hand.
