The School Management Committee will work with parents, teachers and the wider community to get the most out of the school and the potential it brings to the small village.Open Arms will support the teachers and provide food for the daily meals but the village will run and own the school, giving a boost to the local community as well as the children.

About Open Arms Malawi
Open Arms Malawi provide essential care to vulnerable children in Malawi, which is one of the world's poorest countries. They have cared for over 1,000 children since 1995 and forged strong links with SMBC Aviation Capital who have visited to take part in projects for the last two years.
The importance of food and education
In Malawi, malnutrition is a common problem, meaning that around 50% of children under five suffer from stunted growth. This is caused by lack of nutrients and frequent infections while children are young.Stunting also effects cognitive behaviour so development and learning are even harder. But with something as simple as a good meal each day, it means that children can grow up healthy.
Primary schools often have classes of over 100 children with mixed ages and abilities. If children do get to school, it is a struggle to keep up and only 26% of children complete primary school. So getting a head start at a nursery school is a major advantage.
