- Bringing the company's owned portfolio to 300 aircraft -
Charleston, USA, September 22 SMBC Aviation Capital, one of the world's leading aircraft leasing companies, today delivered a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (MSN 37510) to Aerovias Del Continente Americano S.A (Avianca). This is the eighth aircraft SMBC Aviation Capital has on lease to Avianca and the fifth aircraft delivered to the airline this year. This delivery brings SMBC Aviation Capital's owned portfolio of aircraft to 300 for the first time.
Commenting on the significance of the deal, Brian Harvey, Chief Marketing Officer of SMBC Aviation Capital said, "From mandate to closure, this has been one of the quickest deliveries of an aircraft that we have ever achieved, completing the entire process within 16 business days. It also brings our owned portfolio to 300 for the first time.
This is testament to the efficiency of our platform, the strong relationship we have with Avianca and also our excellent relations with Boeing and Rolls Royce to meet a customer's requirements in such a short amount of time."
Hernán Rincón, President and CEO of Avianca expressed: "We are very proud to have SMBC Aviation Capital as a partner, for more than 10 years they have been financing various types of aircraft, that now include Avianca's ninth Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner; we look forward to continue working alongside SMBC Aviation Capital as Avianca continues executing its fleet program."
"SMBC Aviation Capital is a valued partner and we're proud that their milestone airplane is built by Boeing," said Brad McMullen, vice president of North America Sales and Leasing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "SMBC Aviation Capital understands the market and what is important to airlines around the world, and we will be there for them as they grow their fleet in years to come."
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner follows on from the delivery of an additional 787 to Avianca in August, which was the first new technology widebody to be leased into the Americas by SMBC Aviation Capital.
In total, SMBC Aviation Capital has 300 aircraft in its owned portfolio, 150 in its managed portfolio and an order book of 204 aircraft.
